Our pick of Tarifa’s best restaurants
As Tarifa becomes more and more popular, not to mention international, so too do our choices for dining. here’s a little list we have pulled together for you as a guide.
First of all let’s start with breakfast…
Surla is our number one breakfast pick in the new town. With it’s funky modern design and scrumptious energy boosting Acai and granola, it’s not only the place to be and be seen before a cheeky kite session, but it also has wifi so you can while your morning away, ‘working’ whilst sipping your cafe cortado. I’ll let the reviews speak for themselves. https://www.tripadvisor.com.au/Restaurant_Review-g315918-d751534-Reviews-Surla-Tarifa_Costa_de_la_Luz_Andalucia.html
Stoked which is (almost) next door is another great option for breakfast or lunch with families and kids spilling onto the pavement on weekends.
Cafe Azul is a definite favourite and has the best choice of fresh juices in town, delicious. This cute cafe right on the outskirts of the old town is a delicious stop off for those staying closer to the old town, or before hitting the daily (except Sundays) local market.
For tapas, lunch and dinner there are soo many scrumptious options.
El Lola, situated in the old town offers a great array of delicious tapas and is a perfect setting outside in the courtyard. Calle Guzman el Bueno literally jumps in the season and is a fun place to start your night. You can check out their menu here: http://www.ellolatarifa.es/
Chillimosa is an all time favourite and a unique little restaurant for southern Spain. So if you are done with chorizo and jamon, just inside the arco is vegetarian restaurant Chillimosa. Their vegetarian lasagne is a favourite and make sure you leave room for their delicious lemon cheesecake. Again the reviews speak for themselves. https://www.tripadvisor.com.au/ShowUserReviews-g315918-d751519-r161283558-Chilimosa_Vegetarian_Food-Tarifa_Costa_de_la_Luz_Andalucia.html
If meat is what you are after, take a drive to Facinas. A quintessential Spanish restaurant called el Nene will be by far your favourite Spanish dining experience. With an extensive meat menu and if your Spanish is good, you can ask the full history of the meat from the waiter. Take an empty stomach, the portions are HUGE, and delicious!
El Tesoro is your go to spot for Spanish lunch! Make sure you clear your afternoon and evening that day. Perched on top of the hill overlooking Los Lances all the way to Play Chica and Africa, this Spanish courtyard restaurant is truly delightful. All your senses will be excited. Set amongst vineyards, with cows walking through them, spectacular views, light crisp Spanish wines and fish, meat or vegetarian options available. This is truly an unforgettable experience. https://www.tripadvisor.com.au/Restaurant_Review-g315918-d2233560-Reviews-El_Tesoro-Tarifa_Costa_de_la_Luz_Andalucia.html
Bar El Frances in the Old Town is uniquely one of the best SPANISH tapas bar. Perch yourself at the bar or a stool on the sidewalk and enjoy cervezas and tapas before you head off to enjoy some local flamenco or a night at the bars on the pumping Calle San Francisco.
Meson de Sancho offers a delicious typical Spanish lunch or dinner, set in the forest right near our casitas. The hosts and staff are super friendly and the outlook to the forest and beyond is cosy and charming.
Oca de Sergio is a great Italian option, behind the church in the Old Town. With fresh basil lining the street to mark the entrance, you can sit inside or out and enjoy the italian aromas of fresh ingredients. Definitely try the buffalo mozzarella, it is creamy and delicious. you can also take away pizzas here if you fancy a night in. A true family owned and run business with photos of their children devouring huge bowls of pasta on the wall, make it all the more inviting comfortable.
So whatever taste you have, you can find it here in Tarifa. Please share with us your favourite eating spot and hopefully you enjoy our recommendations.
Dont miss el Nene and el Tesoro – the best!!
