“What a wonderful place, a little piece of heaven! Spectacular views, fabulous pool. We have loved our stay here. The road was bumpy but the Cortijo La Hoya was worth it “

“We are pensioners and have stayed at Cortijo La Hoya for six years running, it is a unique place, and we go because we can avoid crowds and we enjoy the magnificent views when walking in all the beautiful places there are to see. The approach road is certainly a drawback but you get used to it so it is not a problem if you allow plenty of time and do not have a low slung car, 4WD is ideal.
The cottage we love most and always stay in is “Tramontana” which is beautifully arranged with extremely comfortable beds, lovely sheets, a good sized fridge/freezer and heating if you need it.
The roof patio is really good as the views across the straits of Gibraltar are magnificent and unbeatable. There is also a lovely big garden with a very clean and incredibly well placed swimming pool. The owners are delightful and unfailingly helpful, the situation is superb, and we would strongly recommend Cortijo La Hoya to anyone who appreciates tranquillity and beautiful scenery.”

“The great thing about this place is the fact that you can enjoy the beautiful grounds and stunning views over the straits in complete isolation from any form of noise – the access road is a challenge but it does mean that the place is miles from the nearest metalled road and there is no traffic noise whatsoever; neither are there any overflying planes. For tranquillity this place is hard to beat, but there is always something to see – the constant stream of shipping, the changing cloud patterns, the birds (particularly the vultures!) wheeling overhead.
Although we stayed in mid-August the climate was excellent, being maritime rather than hot and sticky Spain. The pool is well-maintained and a good size, which helps cooling off when required.
We flew to Gib and hired a car on the Spanish side. The border was no problem at all and the Spanish hire company excellent. My TomTom SatNav was invaluable and recognised the access road down to giving an accurate transit time.
Main tip: make sure to do your big shop on the way (as we did) – once you get there you won’t want to do the road again the same day especially if you’re arriving lateish. In fact you won’t want to leave at all….”
